GOHBA congratulates Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe on a Second Term

OTTAWA, ON – October 27, 2026 – The Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) congratulates Mayor Mark Sutcliffe on his successful re-election. GOHBA looks forward to continuing to work with the mayor and new city council to advance practical solutions to increase housing supply and affordability for residents of Ottawa.

Over the last four years, GOHBA has worked closely with Mayor Sutcliffe and City Council to address barriers and improve the delivery of housing options across the city. Through initiatives such as the Mayor's Housing Innovation Task Force, GOHBA members have contributed their expertise and practical experience to help identify opportunities to streamline approvals, reduce costs and support housing development.

The subsequent Housing Acceleration Plan represented an important step forward in addressing many of the housing supply barriers identified by GOHBA and its members, including unnecessary studies, lengthy approval processes, complex legal agreements and development-related costs. These reforms, alongside the adoption of a new Zoning By-law, position Ottawa to support increased housing construction both now and as market conditions improve.

“We congratulate Mayor Sutcliffe on his re-election and look forward to continuing our work together,” said Jason Burggraaf, Executive Director of GOHBA. “Over the past four years, we've demonstrated the value of bringing industry expertise and municipal leadership together to ensure that Ottawa's housing policies facilitate new home construction.”

Leading up to the election, GOHBA was proud to partner with the Ottawa Real Estate Board to host a mayoral candidates' debate focused on housing and growth. The debate provided an important opportunity to examine the challenges facing Ottawa's housing market and the importance of housing policy to the City’s residents.

GOHBA also appreciates Mayor Sutcliffe's recognition of the residential construction industry's contributions to Ottawa, including his proclamation of April 8, 2026, as 'GOHBA Day' in honour of the Association's 75th anniversary.

“Important progress has been made, and we look forward to the work ahead with the Mayor to ensure that these policy changes translate into more homes being built for Ottawa residents, now and in the future,” said Burggraaf.
