GOHBA CELEBRATES 75 YEARS

In 2026, the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association marks 75 years of representing and advancing Ottawa’s residential construction industry. Since its founding in 1951, GOHBA has served as a trusted voice for builders, developers, renovators, and industry partners.

This milestone is an opportunity to recognize the Association’s enduring role in shaping Ottawa’s neighbourhoods, while continuing to focus on the future of housing in our region.

75 Years of Impact

For more than seven decades, GOHBA has worked alongside industry leaders, government, and community partners to strengthen Ottawa’s homebuilding sector. Through advocacy, education, awards, and industry collaboration, the Association has helped establish professional standards, supported business growth, and contributed to the development of vibrant communities across the region.

The 75th anniversary reflects the collective efforts of members, volunteers, staff, and partners whose leadership and commitment have guided the Association through evolving market conditions, regulatory change, and shifting housing needs.

Origins

Supporting a growing post-war builders’ community and creating a unified voice for Ottawa’s builders.

“For 75 years, GOHBA has been the trusted voice of Ottawa’s homebuilding industry — connecting members, advancing professionalism, and advocating for responsible growth — and our focus remains firmly on building the future of housing in our region.”

~ GOHBA Board of Directors

For almost 15 years now, I’ve had the great honor of serving our association in different capacities, including as Chair of the Building Innovation Committee and currently as Chair of GOHBA.  Active membership in GOHBA is a tradition held by many Minto employees, dating back over 70 years, starting in 1956 with one of its founders taking on the presidency.  GOHBA’s strong leadership in supporting Ottawa’s residential construction industry, and the values our association has demonstrated over the past 75 years, have both aligned with and been an asset to Minto. We look forward to our continued partnership with GOHBA as we navigate the many challenges ahead facing our industry  experience has shown us that together we are stronger.

"I’ve been proud to be part of the GOHBA community for over 20 years.  It’s been a rewarding experience, with invaluable networking opportunities, relationships, and collaboration playing a direct and meaningful role in the long-term success of my business.  The Association has provided a meaningful voice to help shape a strong, resilient, and forward-thinking homebuilding industry in Ottawa.  As GOHBA celebrates 75 years, I am confident that it will remain a strong advocate, continuing to play an essential role in building a vibrant, innovative, and sustainable future for our region."

Then & Now

Then:
A newly formed builders’ association supporting a growing post-war city and laying the foundation for industry cooperation and professional representation.

Now:
A modern, established industry association addressing today’s complex housing environment—focused on supply, affordability, sustainability, innovation, and long-term community growth.

While the industry has evolved, GOHBA’s purpose remains consistent: to support, represent, and connect the residential construction sector in Ottawa.

The 75th anniversary marks both a moment of recognition and a renewed commitment. It honours the Association’s legacy while looking ahead to the next chapter of leadership in Ottawa’s housing industry. GOHBA remains committed to collaboration, professionalism, and advocacy as we continue building strong communities for generations to come.
