Ottawa Home Builders Applaud City and Province’s Funding Deal for Housing and Infrastructure Development

March 28, 2024, OTTAWA, ON — The Greater Ottawa Home Builders' Association (GOHBA) commends today’s funding agreement between the Government of Ontario and the City of Ottawa, recognizing it as a significant stride toward addressing the city's pressing housing and infrastructure requirements.

“As steadfast advocates for Ottawa’s housing sector, GOHBA is encouraged by the commitment demonstrated by both the provincial and municipal governments to support the city's long-term development and prosperity,” said Jason Burggraaf, GOHBA’s Executive Director. “This agreement is a testament to the dedication of both levels of government to address Ottawa's unique housing and infrastructure needs.”

GOHBA eagerly awaits the transformative impact of the Building Faster Fund on Ottawa's housing and community infrastructure initiatives, including financial support, as well as the implementation of policy changes to assist the city in removing barriers to getting more homes built faster.

Additionally, central to the agreement is bolstering connectivity with a phased plan to upload Ottawa Road 174 to the province, a new interchange at Highway 416 and Barnsdale Road, and provincial investment in the repair and enhancement of vital transportation arteries and rural roads.

Recognizing the importance of collaboration between all levels of government, GOHBA echoes the call for federal support to complement these initiatives. As Ottawa, like many cities across this province, continues to face the economic impacts of the pandemic and strives to revitalize its downtown core, federal assistance in funding infrastructure projects and addressing housing challenges is critical.

GOHBA stands ready to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives and remains committed to advocating for policies and initiatives that promote housing affordability and supply for Ottawa’s residents, now and into the future.
