Only 185 square feet, but powerful

Come and see how a little goes a long way — at Reno Tour, Oct. 15, from 10 am to 4 pm.

The third annual Reno Tour, hosted by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association Renovators’ Council and the Ottawa RenoMark® program, is a true insider’s view of the results of beautiful award-worthy renovations.

This year, seven renovators and homeowners have agreed to open their doors to the public in order to show you their stunning projects. Proceeds from sales of tickets go to Habitat for Humanity Greater Ottawa.

One of the participants, RND Construction, added only 185 square feet of additional living space to the home it has on display for Reno Tour. But these changes made a powerful impact in the overall look, flow, and spaciousness of the home without impeding the rear yard.

The owners lived in the home throughout the renovation, which was a testament to the company’s cleanliness and orderliness during construction.

The original kitchen was dark and dated, centrally located, with a family room to the left and a tiny mudroom with a small powder room to its right.

The homeowners wanted a functional, elegant and contemporary extension with an enlarged kitchen, including a large island facing the exterior windows. They also wanted a larger “picturesque” window to overlook their outdoor gardens, lush mature trees and pool. This new window, replacing a standard one that had previously kept the area dark, now floods the home with beautiful natural light.

The biggest part of the extension (150 sq. ft.) is a large mudroom, which includes a full sized bathroom with shower stall and abundant storage for year-round use. This room is a gateway to and from the pool, so family members and guests can use it before reaching the main kitchen areas.
