Finding the renovator for YOU

There are so many steps to a professional renovation. You don’t really know what you will face, even in the weeks before it begins, until you experience it firsthand.

The most exciting part is probably at the very beginning, when your renovation is only a dream, when you’re full of ideas about how your home can look. You might do some online research. You might check out beautiful renovations in your neighbourhood. Now it’s your turn.

Let’s say you pretty well have it nailed down: what you want, what you can afford. You’ve interviewed renovators; you’ve checked their references. You’ve spoken to people who have used them in the past. You’ve taken the next step and have gathered two or three or four quotations in writing. And now you’re ready to go.

But let’s say they all look good. Let’s say they all belong to the RenoMark™ program, which is a proven indicator of excellent quality. How do you choose?

First of all, you take your time. You compare each set of documents. You read the fine print. When they still all seem to check out perfectly, it might be a simple matter of personality.

Your renovating team will be in your home, practically living with you, day after day, possibly for weeks, until the job is finished. Do you feel comfortable with your renovator? Are you on the same wave length? Do you feel confident in their understanding of what you want and expect? Is your renovator a good communicator? (You should have a sense of this by now.)

You’ll know you’ve chosen the right company for your renovation when you’re in the middle of disruption, and it’s a bit stressful, but your renovator is there for you with a ready smile and confident answers to your questions.

Many renovators talk about becoming friends with their clients, and this is the ideal situation ‒ when you can trust your friend to treat your home, and you, with the greatest of care and respect.
