This session will  introduce all attendees to relevant home modifications and/or Barrier free design. It is intended to inform our renovator members on the need for educated and experienced contractors and trades when creating homes that are accessible for all. At the end of the presentation all attendees will understand the concept of Visitability, be informed of the different products that exist in order to make the home accessible, the different types of modifications, and the demographics that need our support.

The presentation will be lead by:

John Groe of Accessible Daily Living

John Groe is Managing Partner, Accessibility Consultant at Accessible Daily Living. He is responsible for all areas related to Accessibility and Business Development. He has also successfully completed the “Accessible Construction Contractor Training and Certification Program” through March of Dimes Canada and has received his designation as a Canadian Specialist in Accessible Home Design (CSAHD) from Mount Royal University in Alberta, Canada.

Mr. Groe is also a Building Excellence Accessibility Auditor (public spaces) and has successfully completed all AODA (Accessibility for Ontarian with Disabilities Act) Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) courses.

Mr. Groe is a founding member and part of the steering committee for Home Modifications Canada (HMC). HMC is an affiliate to the Canadian Home Builders Association, educating, advocating and creating awareness for accessibility, aging in place and modifications. Mr. Groe is a liaison to the Ontario Brain Injury Association with regards to the Canadian Access and Inclusion Project (CAIP). The goal of CAIP is to improve the participation and integration of people with disabilities in all aspects of Canadian society in cooperation with the federal government and the Minister of Sport and Person’s with Disabilities
